Home Improvement - Solar Panels or Insulation

The other day, I met an interesting fellow who told me that he was environmentalist and that it was too late, the Earth was doomed, and all the people on the planet were nothing more than lice on top of someone's head. That's an unfortunate way to look at humans, and I suppose if you look at some of the worst polluted areas on the planet you might agree. Personally, I don't see it that way, but he sure did. In fact he told me that there should be solar panels on every house by now. That is something I also disagree with.
